I’d like to share a YouTube success story with you today.  Do you remember what I said in my last post about using YouTube to have your potential customers get to know the real YOU?  This story is about a situation like that.

It goes like this……..

As you know, I do personal success coaching.  Pretty much all my clients are people who are in some form of business and they want to use YouTube videos and YouTube video marketing more effectively.  One of my customers is a young man who recently came into ownership of the family restaurant.

This young man is only about 26 or 27 years old.  He’s not a ‘seasoned veteran’ of the restaurant business (or any other business) by any means.  He recently found himself completely in charge of the family restaurant business when his parents passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.

Traffic Through Youtube6 Youtube Video Marketing   YouTube Success StoryAs those things usually are, it was an unexpected event and he wasn’t exactly ready for it.  His parents had been running the restaurant for years and did pretty well at it but a lot of their business was built around their personality and the bond they had built up over the years with their loyal, local customers.

When they died, quiet unexpectedly, it did affect the business.  The business immediately started to go down for the simple reason that his parents weren’t running it anymore.  The quality of the food didn’t change at all but it just had lost that unique element of the personalities behind it.  It was purely a change in the public relations ‘mix’ of the business.

This young man, who I’ll just refer to as James, quiet bravely, decided he’d step up to the plate and try to run the business.  He came to me for coaching on how to use YouTube video to buoy the business back up and one of the things we decided to do was use YouTube videos to help him make the same kind of person bond with his clientele that his parents had built up over many years on a non-techie basis.

He made a series of YouTube videos talking about ‘who’ he was.  He put a YouTube video on the restaurant website explaining that he was part of the community, he loved the local community and being a part of it.  He explained how he’d grown up in the restaurant, sorta in the background, but he still loved the business and really wanted to continue to serve their present and future patrons.

In short, he ‘revealed’ his innermost feelings about the business and what it meant to him.  He even revealed a little vulnerability and asked the local community to help him carry on the traditions of the restaurant that his parents had established.  This had nothing to do with restaurant ‘specials’ or special promotions or advertising but it worked like a charm.

This was just a few weeks ago that he did this but almost immediately he began to notice people coming back to the restaurant and, to date, all the trends are very positive that he’ll be able to keep the doors open and become even more profitable.

This, my friends, is the way that YouTube can be used most effectively.  He took my coaching about how to express his inner feelings and commitment and turned it into an enthusiastic response of support from his local market.  And everybody won.
