Will some one please tell Ms associate Professor that the Q&A after the screening of the movie ‘Apocalypto” was for young film makers to get an insight to how the film was made and designed to focus on moviemaking.. It should have been a learning experience not let’s get Mel. It happened last night at Cal State University at Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. Gibson was speaking to a film class about his movies, After Gibson’s presentation, the crowd was allowed to ask questions. Alicia Estrada, an Assistant Professor of Central American Studies at CSUN, challenged Gibson, asking him if he had read about the Mayan culture before shooting the controversial film. Gibson said he had. Then Ms Estrada read a statement denouncing the film as a distortion of Mayan history. and she challenged Gibson’s depictions of blood-thirsty Mayans engaging in sacrificial ceremonies.

We’re told Gibson became extremely angry when members of the Mayan community protested on how they were portrayed in the film. The emotional Mayan members were escorted out of the room, to the applause of the audience. and we’re told Gibson screamed a parting shot — “Make your own movie!”

If anything, his movie was too soft on them – the true horror of their practices was not shown. For example, it was not just prisoners who were sacrificed, but particularly children, with orphans and illegitimate children purchased for the occasion.. The ceremony involved wearing the skins of the victims, and eating their flesh, activities in which the whole society was complicit. Maybe ms Enstrada got her Corte in a twist because she wanted to be in the movie and she didn’t get cast and this was her only way to get her 15 minutes of fame. however this one smells like a setup from a mile away. Now Ms Estrada wants Mel to apologize. Maybe Ms Estrada should read up on her Mayan history about a single supreme deity, called Itzomna, the inventor of writing, and patron of the arts. Has she heard of Creative License. C’mon Mayans….so you were a little blood thirsty….Deal with it ! Why can’t you cut Mel some slack! I am sure that he is up to here with the insults, the abuse from the press, the public jumping on the bandwagon of hate…and when a person creates a film. its personal…and when attacked…its personal I personally say…let it be…. If you had people on your back all the time whining about every little detail, wouldn’t you have been agitated a bit? You want him to have a PhD? What the hell, He is Director Mel Gibson not Doctor. Boy I am sure glad March Madness is about basketball where the teams are to play for the championship and not Pak-a-tok a Mayan ball game where the losers are scarificed. Put the bill on the hecklers tab if she ‘I mean he” has one.
