Watching a key player in any industry is always interesting and of course if you do it right you can even sometimes make some money off it. One of the biggest factors in almost every facet of the internet today is of course Google. Their latest move is one of their simplest but most interesting advancements in a long time.
You already remember that the internet is going more and more toward ‘video marketing’,? And you know that Google owns YouTube. And you know that top rated videos almost invariably wind up on page one of Google. The ‘game’ for marketers thus far has been trying to figure out how to consistently get videos ranked on YouTube because if videos can get ranked high on YouTube they’ll almost invariably be ranked high on Google too.
The latest news is that Google/YouTube has adjusted their algorithm to track those little abbreviations that everybody has been using for several years now. You know….the LOL, LOOOOOL, OMG, etc. Google is now taking those into account as an expression of how strongly viewers favor your videos.
You may or may not do a lot of that yourself (I don’t either) but I know you’ve seen what I’m talking about and I know a lot of people do it. Now Google is starting to read those things and if they feel that a lot of people really liked your video, by virtue of the abbreviations they use to describe it in their comments, they’re going to give you credit for it accordingly.
Now….let’s bring some humor into the mix.
Here’s a question: What’s the one quality that those abbreviations are most often used to describe or measure?
The answer is…….Humor!
The humor factor of a video is the first thing that most people notice and the easiest and simplest thing for most people to comment on. People use those little abbreviations to indicate how funny they think videos are. That means that if you know how to make funny videos and/or how to get more and better comments on your videos than your competition does, then your videos will rank higher on Google and YouTube and (presumably) you’ll make more money.
That’s why I’m excited about what I’m going to be showing you in the very near future. I’ve alluded to it in the past but it’s really getting near ‘show-and-tell time’ now.
I’ve spent most of my adult life learning how to act and how to project humor and emotions and also teaching others how to do it. Additionally, my 3 sons have spent the last several years learning the art of making high quality, humorous videos that make people laugh and building a good working relationship with YouTube. They’re very good at it (if I do say so myself) so….what does that all add up to?
Understanding how to make videos that entertain, inform and inspire can make you a lot of money. Google and YouTube are figuring out how to tell whether your videos do that or not. These recent rules changes are their latest move in that direction and you can bet it’s going to get even more sophisticated at time goes by.
In the next few weeks I’m going to be announcing some exciting new programs that will show you how to use video in a more powerful way than you’ve ever imagined. And I’m not talking about just ‘more technical stuff either (although there is an aspect of that in it). The foundational skill in entertaining, informing, and inspiring people by video is about understand people and understanding how people think and react emotionally on both a conscious and sub-conscious level and that’s an understanding and a skill that I’m unique in having.
I don’t see anybody else teaching that particular skill. 99.99% of video marketers have been distracted by the technical side of making videos but I’m here to tell you that there’s more to it than that and Google/YouTube’s latest algorithm changes prove it. It’s becoming clearer and clearer that Google and YouTube recognizes and rewards marketers who know how to affect the hearts and minds of viewer….especially with humor.
Now more than ever is the time to learn how to set up YouTube channels, to put the right type of videos on them and to market them effectively. The people who can do that in such a way that informs, inspires and entertains, and who can apply it to various products, services, brands, causes, etc., will be very successful. And yes, that does apply to my idea about the YouTube Local News Anchor (just to name one).
