So Long Old Friends
Heaven Hi!!!
We remember the lives of two great American iconic figures, actress Deborah Kerr, and comedian Joey Bishop.
As for Deborah Kerr, she was remembered for such roles as “An Affair to Remember,” Oscar winning “From Here to Eternity,” co-starring Burt Lancaster, and Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was also in the famous Rat Pack in which Joey Bishop was apart of. An Affair to Remember inspired the all too romantic comedy, “Sleepless in Seattle.” Furthermore, you might recall “From Here to Eternity’s” most famous scene; the kiss on the beach as Lancaster and Kerr are being rocked in the sand as the waves come crashing upon their two inner twinned bodies.
I once had the honor of working with the classic Burt Lancaster in a film “Valdez is Coming.” He remarked how despite her looks, Kerr could make the 25% shift in her body that revealed her sexuality. In my book “Acting For Real,” I talk about how a person can shift their body 25% in order to make themselves appear more attractive, sexy, and “alluring.” Deborah Kerr knew how to do this in order to draw the audiences in. She will go down as a legendary Hollywood actress. She will be missed.
Joey Bishop’s trademarked stone face was the steady aspect that kept the wild and crazy Sinatra, Sammy, and Dean balanced out. Each character of the Rat Pack had their own uniqueness that they brought to the table. Sinatra was a flowing character, along with Dean. Sammy was a flying character. Peter Lawford was the playboy, while Joey Bishop was the molding character. The rock of the group, Joey Bishop launched Regis Philbman’s career where he soared to great heights. Bishop’s deadpan comedy brought ingenuity which merited him to be apart of one of the most legendary teams in history, The Rat Pack. He had a striking stage presence, and acerbic wit, that his docile tone inadvertently drew audiences to listen a little bit closer. A comedic legend which only complemented the three other land marking iconic figures with talent variety, and enigmatic showcasing surpassed by none.
As the last of the Rat Pack members now laying to rest we can say “so long” to a talented era of versatility, vivacity, and class.
However, we will never forget what they brought to us by their immeasurable classic talent. So long old friends, you will forever be remembered.
Be BOP!!!
